My summer research intern, KiHyira Jones from Fayetteville State University, and I were featured today in ECU News about our research on heat stress. The purpose of our research was to compare heat stress exposures of outdoor workers on two different surfaces: pavement vs. grass. The ultimate goal of the study was to prevent outdoor workers from having heat-related illnesses.
KiHyira, from Fayetteville State University, is one of the 12 selected students who came to ECU for a summer immersion program involving minority-serving institutions across the state for mentored research projects. The immersion program is part of an ECU and Fayetteville State partnership that secured more than $1.3 million in grant funding from the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation to address regional and public health needs.
