I had the pleasure today of giving a research presentation titled, “Comparison between WBGT App Prototype and WBGT Monitor to Assess Heat Stress Risk” during the 33rd Annual Joint Safety and Environmental Professional Development Symposium (PDS) 2025. The presented study was funded in 2023 by the NIOSH Pilot/Small Project Research Training Grant through the Deep South Center for Occupational Health and Safety and was awarded to Bridget Angol (MS Environmental Health alumna 2024) and I as her faculty advisor. I gave my presentation, along with other presenters from government agencies, industry, and academia.
The PDS is a virtual event held from April 21-25, 2025 and an online professional development opportunity for Department of Defense uniformed and civilian professionals to share innovative ideas, new trends, and new information in areas of safety and occupational health, environmental protection and industrial hygiene. It is open to Federal personnel, Federal contractors, and students pursuing coursework in related fields. The PDS provided over 100 concurrent educational sessions to more than 2,800 registered participants from various countries. Participants’ backgrounds ranged from safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, occupational health, public health, radiation health, and occupational medicine.
