Our journey has begun!

Our journey has begun! We are sitting at the LAX airport waiting for our 15 hour flight! Many have asked why we chose to go to New Zealand and Australia. Really it is a story that began about 5 or 6 years ago. John has always had big travel ideas and he got the kids hooked early. So he made a promise to them that before they got out of high school he would take them to Australia. So, thus here we are. I am glad we chose to do this now. So many tell me how hard it is to get the family together for vacation once college and jobs, and then families start. So we are doing this now before Thomas’ senior year and Megan’s junior year.

The actual planning for this trip started last year. It has not been a small ordeal. First, deciding where to go and what to do. East, West, North, or South? It is like someone coming to the USA and trying to tour the whole country in 3 weeks. You can’t do it all. So, we sat down with the kids and decided where to go and what we wanted to do. So, we will be snow skiing in New Zealand and scuba diving in Australia.

I can tell you preparing for a trip like this is a lot of work – booking flights, places to stay, finding activities we wanted to do. Then planning the packing – for both winter and summer activities. Lots of planning, shopping, packing and repacking. It sure did make me clean out my closet and storage supplies. I guess that is a good thing – forces you to do a thorough cleaning!
